Madison

Created in 1849 from Covington and Jefferson townships and named in honor of President James Madison. Henry Drinker was the first owner of much of the land in the township, and Thomas Beisecker and Richard Edwards were the pioneer residents. The township was originally heavily timbered with beech, hemlock, and ash trees, but much of the land was cleared for the establishment of many fine farms.
