The Lackawanna County Disability Action Committee will sponsor “Building Bridges: A Disability Town Hall” from 1-3 p.m. on July 31 at the Lackawanna County Trolley Museum, 300 Cliff St., Scranton.

The committee is an advisory group appointed by the county commissioners whose mission is to provide guidance on improving accessibility for people with disabilities in county facilities and programs.

The event will be an open forum for people with disabilities and the public to identify barriers that inhibit independence on such topics as accessibility to buildings and community-based services.

County commissioners, state Sen. Marty Flynn, Scranton Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti and other area leaders are expected to attend. The featured speaker will be Dale Verchick of the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania, who will discuss the progress achieved since the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed and identify emerging issues that require compliance.

Sign language interpreters will be provided for anyone who is deaf or hard of hearing.
