Community picnic: The Abington Democrats are hosting their inaugural Community Picnic on Aug. 3 from 4-7 p.m. at the Hillside Park Pavilion in South Abington Twp. This family-friendly event will feature catered food by Downtown Cosgroves, live music, raffles, yard games, face painting and more, as well as book signings by local authors Kitty Conway, Ty Holmes, and Barbara Taylor. Tickets are $25/advance, $30/at door, $10/children and free/2 and under. Ticket includes food and a soft beverage. Tinnitus support group: The Tinnitus Support Group of Northeast Pennsylvania will meet Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Wright Center for Community Health Mid Valley, 5 S. Washington Ave., Jermyn. At the August meeting, Walter Wanas, registered dietitian-nutritionist at the Wright Center for Community Health, will present, “Ringing in the Ears: Can Nutrition Help Manage Tinnitus?” The health talk aims to explore the emerging connection between what we eat and how we perceive sound. Virtual meeting options are available for those unable to attend in person. There is no fee to attend. New members are welcome. Preseason pizza party: The Greater Scranton Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association will host its annual preseason pizza party Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. at Arcaro and Genell’s. Donnie Collins from The Times-Tribune will be guest speaker, discussing the upcoming 2025 Penn State football season. Raffle tickets will be sold for T-shirts and football tickets. Auction will be held for football season tickets and parking pass. No reservations required.
