Hip-hop festival in Scranton becomes annual event

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Rappers Relic Rhymes and Lawsy will headline the ATMOSFERE Music Festival in Scranton on Aug. 2, alongside nearly another 20 acts. It is the second year for the festival, this year with the addition of touring acts from outside the region.

ATMOSFERE is trying to raise the regional profile of hip-hop and rap. “We are trying to do something phenomenal here,” said Keven Martinez of Scranton, one of four chief executive managers.

They have held smaller concerts, DJ shows and charity events and hope to grow. “We decided we wanted to create this platform for this genre of music,” Martinez said.

The events inside and outside the Ritz Theater in Scranton begin at noon, with food trucks, DJs and a video game truck. The concert is from 4 p.m. to midnight.

The regional musician Methadonix, whose real name is Kelly Parker, is one of the executive managers of ATMOSFERE and will perform.

Ticket options include meet-and-greets with performers Relic Rhymes and Lawsy. Relic Rhymes, an Atlanta-based artist, has gone viral for both his song “On Deck” and his hairstyle. He wears a precisely cut bob with bangs. He has 122,800 followers on TikTok. Lawsy, a North Carolina rapper with 227,000 followers on TikTok, is known for the song “Hotel.”

The show is for ages 18-plus, and Martinez says they make some effort to limit lyric references to violence and other illegal activity. “We want to make sure we have the correct crowd in there,” Martinez said.

In addition to Relic Rhymes, Lawsy and Methadonix, the scheduled acts are Tay Baybeee, Creez Cooper, SMN Tyrique, D.O.N, Alahji Daquan, GOMMi J, CJ Lopez, SYEKO, TayT, Alien Sue, Garate, Lil Shipuden, Gravemaker, Ricky Rich, Soul Avon, Sellz and Baker Immaculate.

Martinez hosts the podcast “The Middleman.” In addition to Martinez and Methadonix, the other chief executive managers are music producer Mikey Smith, who goes by SteezePA, and Drew Chase, a web designer who owns 570Exotics Snacks & Drinks.
