MOOSIC — A Scranton man, upset because a friend didn’t want to spend time with him, hit her several times as she attempted to drop him off and then fled police when they responded.

Kariem Felton, 32, of 33 Crown Circle Drive, faces charges of assault, disorderly conduct and evading police.

According to the criminal complaint:

At about 3 p.m. on July 27, Moosic police officers were dispatched to Five Guys parking lot for the report of a physical altercation between a man and woman.

When officers arrived, Felton was aggressive toward police and toward Anita Malinchak, the woman involved in the incident.

When Officer James Brown approached Felton, he ran from the scene toward TownePlace Suites.

Brown warned Felton that if he didn’t stop, he would be tased. When Felton continued to run, Brown deployed his taser and arrested him.

Officers then spoke with Malinchak, who said she decided she didn’t want to hang out with Felton and wanted to drop him off. Felton got upset and began punching the dashboard, screaming and attempting to break the car window.

When they arrived near hotels on Montage Mountain, Felton wouldn’t get out of the car. Malinchak parked and got out of the car. Felton began chasing her and threatened to break her jaw.

When Felton attempted to flatten Malinchak’s tires, she pushed him away from the vehicle.

Brown then spoke with a witness who said Felton and Malinchak came into Five Guys screaming at each other before going to the parking lot.

He said the two began swinging at each other and hit each other several times.

Felton remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on August 8 before District Judge Sean McGraw.
