Pennsylvania American Water to replace 37-year-old tank in Roaring Brook

Pennsylvania American Water is replacing a 37-year-old water tank in the Olwen Heights Development in Roaring Brook Twp.

Improper maintenance of the tank, which was built in 1988 before PAW ownership, shortened its lifespan, the company said.

“Replacing the tank was the best way to keep serving our customers,” PAW Senior Project Engineer Matt Griffith said.

A contractor recently began site preparation work for a new 100,000-gallon tank that will get built next to the old tank. The company does not anticipate any service interruptions for customers while crews work on the $2 million tank construction project.

Once the new tank is in service, the old tank will be removed. The project also includes fencing and site updates, the addition of a backup generator and upgrades to connect the two pressure zones in the distribution system into one.

The new tank is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with additional upgrades to be done by spring 2026.

The Olwen Heights tank is one of three new water storage tanks that the company is constructing this year in Pennsylvania, along with plans to rehabilitate seven other tanks, which together represent a $12.8 million total investment.
