A Jefferson Twp. woman straddled her husband with a hammer in hand after an argument over the volume of her music, police charge.
Sandra Denise Velez, 49, of 21 Hi-View Drive, is charged with harassment and assault following the incident Tuesday.
According to the criminal complaint:
State police responded to the Hi-View Drive address at about 3 a.m. on a report of an assault involving a hammer.
When officers arrived, they spoke with Stephen Formisano, 57, who said his wife, Sandra Velez, had been outside drinking and listening to loud music.
When he went outside to tell her to turn down the music, the two began arguing.
Formisano went back inside the residence and fell asleep on the couch. He awoke to Velez straddling him while holding a hammer above him.
He pushed her off him and took the hammer away from her. Velez then got a knife from the kitchen and Formisano took that away from her as well.
During the struggle, Velez cut her right finger. She was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital Dickson City and was arrested upon discharge.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 2 at 10:15 a.m. before District Judge Sean McGraw. Velez remains in Lackawanna County Prison on $20,000 bail.
