SCRANTON — A man punched his ex-girlfriend in the face after kicking in the door of her home, Scranton police charge.
Wilson Jose Torres, 37, listed as homeless in court papers, is accused of assault and burglary.
According to the criminal complaint:
Just after 9 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to the 400 block of West Market Street for the report of an altercation. Dispatchers told officers a man had left the scene.
Angelina Padden told officers that Torres, her ex-boyfriend, had kicked in the front door, punched her in the face and then fled on a scooter.
Officers noted smashed pieces of wood near the door jam, indicating that someone had attempted to force their way in.
Padden said she had been having problems with Torres for weeks. She said Torres had smashed her window days earlier and had been banging on her door earlier in the day in an attempt to come inside. Every time police responded, Torres fled, Padden said.
Padden said Torres had lived with her until February, when she kicked him out. She told officers he no longer had any belongings at the residence.
Emergency medical personnel came to the scene to evaluate Padden.
Torres is also charged with criminal trespass and harassment.
He remains at Lackawanna County Prison on $50,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on June 4 before District Judge Paul Ware.
