An 18-year-old Scranton man pulled a gun after a sweet 16 party.
Jonathan Perez, of 427 S. Main Ave., faces two felony charges of making terroristic threats and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. He remains at Lackawanna County Prison without bail.
According to the criminal complaint:
Just after midnight Saturday, officers were on a call on Maple Street when they heard screaming and walked down the street to investigate.
Officers approached a residence in the 300 block of Maple Street where they saw people outside screaming and shouting at each other.
Officers found Perez near the residence yelling at two people.
As police approached, Perez drew a gun and pointed it at people standing on the porch.
Police Officer Rebecca Kohut drew her firearm, pointed it at Perez and commanded him to drop the gun.
Following Kohut’s command, Perez put down his gun, got on his knees with his hands behind his head and was arrested.
Officers then spoke with Shakwon Ambles and Sasha Guerrera.
Ambles told officers he heard an argument outside and went out on the porch, where Perez pulled a gun. He told officers he didn’t know Perez.
Guerrera told officers two girls had been bullying her daughter over an issue at a sweet 16 party. She told officers she went outside to ask where their mother was. Perez then “came out of nowhere” and pulled a gun. Guerrera told officers she didn’t know why the incident escalated.
Officer identified Perez’s gun as a 9mm, containing 16 bullets.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on July 29 before District Judge Kipp Adcock.
