SCRANTON — A city man threatened another man Friday with what turned out to be an airsoft gun, police said.
Harvey Ormes, 51, of 824 Capouse Ave., Room 16, is charged with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, endangering the life of others and related charges.
Here is what police say happened:
At about 6:30 p.m., police were called to the 300 block of New Street for the report of a man threatening others with a pistol.
While en route, dispatchers told officers the suspect had entered the Melba, a former bar with a rooming house above.
Officers determined Ormes ran back to his residence and security footage showed he pointed a firearm at another man.
Police set up a perimeter around the residence and informed Ormes he was under arrest, directing him to come outside with his hands up. Ormes didn’t comply. Officers could see Ormes looking out a window of the building.
A witness told officers Ormes had been arguing with another man and pulled a handgun out of his waistband, waved it around and threatened to blow the other man’s brains out.
When officers entered the apartment building, a resident waved them down and told them Ormes was in his room.
Police found Ormes asleep on a chair and were able to arrest him.
The resident told officers he had feared for his life and hid the gun under his mattress.
Officers determined the firearm to be an airsoft gun.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on April 15 before District Judge Paul Keeler.
Ormes remains at the Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
