A Throop woman punched her boyfriend in the face unprovoked, then told police she didn’t remember doing it, according to a criminal complaint.

Lisa Smith, 45, of 118 Bellman St., faces charges of assault and harassment following the incident Tuesday.

According to the charging document:

Throop Police officer Noah Palauskas responded to a report of a domestic assault at the Bellman Street residence at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

When he arrived, he spotted two men sitting on the porch and a woman, later identified as Smith, trying to get inside the home.

Smith banged loudly on the door when she couldn’t successfully enter the security code to open it.

Palauskas then spoke with Roger Gann, who was bleeding from the nose. Gann said he was on the porch when Smith came outside and started punching him in the face. A witness told police Gann was on the porch drinking when Smith came out and hit him in the face.

When officers asked Smith if she would step off the porch to talk with them, Smith began to hurl expletives at Gann.

Officers walked Smith to the sidewalk to speak with her.

Smith told officers she didn’t remember what happened. Officers noted she was slurring her words and smelled like alcohol. When police asked Gann again why Smith punched him, Gann said he didn’t know.

Officer explained to Smith that, even if Gann didn’t want to press charges, she could go to jail for attacking him.

Gann told officers he did not want them to arrest Smith, but officers said they had no choice in a domestic violence situation.

Gann was initially upset, but then calmed down and told officers he understood.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on June 2 before District Judge Sean McGraw.
