The splash pad at Lackawanna County’s McDade Park remained closed Monday as parks and recreation staff worked to repair a water pump, the county noted in a news release. Officials announced the pump problem Sunday but have not provided a timeline for repairs or indicated when the water amenity might reopen. The splash pad issue comes as McDade’s recently renovated swimming pool remains closed following the discovery of leaks earlier this year. An engineering consultant ultimately recommended that all of the tile joints on the pool’s floor be repaired, a pending project that makes McDade’s 2025 swim season uncertain. The renovated pool opened in August 2023, part of a $3.1 million project that also included a new bathhouse, restrooms and splash pad equipment. Officials expressed frustration over the pool problems last month, noting the cost of repair work wouldn’t be known until the county receives competitive bids. The county reassigned lifeguards who otherwise would have worked at the McDade pool to the lakes at the county-owned Covington, Aylesworth and Merli-Sarnoski parks, officials said in June.
