Taylor-based Schiff’s Food Service Inc. added to its portfolio through the acquisition of the real estate, business, and all associated branding of Easton-based R&R Provision Co., a fellow family-owned food-service distributor, officials announced. The sale price was not disclosed by company officials.
Schiff’s Food Service Inc. further increased its operations in the Lehigh Valley with the recent purchase. In 2024, the company acquired the food-service and distribution business from Catasauqua-based Tommy Burke Provisions following the purchase of Easton-based Korte & Co.’s facility and business in 2022 and its acquisition of the distribution division of Allentown-based K. Heeps in 2021.
Both Schiff’s Food Service and R&R operate on-site, USDA-approved meat rooms and are members of Uni-Pro Foodservice, America’s largest food-service cooperative, officials said.
Ryan Yeager, president of Schiff’s Food Service, said he believes the new acquisition will allow the company to attract new clients.
“R&R was such a strong company for over 90 years,” he said. “They have a long history in the meat industry and really developed a brand that a lot of restaurants love and a really good product that stood up to the test of time. The biggest items they produce are scrapple, burger patties and breaded veal patties, and that’s part of the business we never had a chance to do so we’re bringing that into our fold. Bringing their people and whole operation into our company is a great win-win. In this process, we were able to keep all of their employees and grow our footprint, customer base and product line.”
“Schiff’s Food Service covers an approximately 100-mile radius, including northern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York state, officials said.
Yeager — who noted more than 90% of Schiff’s Food Service’s business comes from independent, privately owned restaurants — has been encouraged by recent developments, specifically in downtown Scranton.
“It seems like there are a lot more restaurants opening up and a lot more people getting into that business, which is great,” he said.
