The body of a Scranton woman was recovered from the Susquehanna River on Sunday. Police are trying to piece together how she died.
Katrina Marie Seguine, 42, was found near the boat launch on River Drive in Mahoning Twp., near Danville, said Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn on Tuesday. An autopsy has not been scheduled.
At about 10:30 a.m., a camper from a nearby site alerted Mahoning Twp. police to the body in the water.
Danville’s Continental and East End fire departments were conducting water training nearby, with boats already in the water and were able to respond quickly.
Officers initially requested the public’s help identifying her, providing a description, which included information about her tattoos. The description of the tattoos, as well as forensic evidence and fingerprint analysis, led to her identification, according to Mahoning Twp. police Detective Jason Bedisky.
The department contacted Seguine’s family before releasing her identity, he said.
Bedisky said, because Seguine likely went missing from another area, Mahoning Township police would be working with other departments moving forward.
The department is requesting the public’s help regarding Seguine’s whereabouts and activities prior to her death.
