‘Stop the Billionaire Giveaway’ bus tour stops in Scranton

A 24-day bus tour traversing the country — geared toward urging elected leaders to reject bills that cut health care and food assistance programs in favor of funding tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans — stopped in Scranton on Monday afternoon. Representatives from Fair Share America, Unrig our Economy and Pennsylvanians Together brought the “Stop the Billionaire Giveaway” national bus tour to the Lackawanna County Courthouse to highlight the impact of the GOP’s budget and tax proposal on the state’s families, communities and economy, a spokesperson for Fair Share America said. The bus tour — traveling from New York to California — will conclude July 14. “This tour, for us, is very personal because members of the GOP — especially in Scranton — have ignored their constituents … and we want to stand with the American public and our community partners all across the country and make sure they know we’re hearing them,” said Kristen Crowell, executive director of Fair Share America. “There is so much anger and, candidly, people are afraid. People are sitting at home with their families wondering, if this reconciliation bill passes, how they will meet their basic needs.”
