A Scranton man, upset over his broken vehicle, attacked his girlfriend as she was trying to contact emergency services, Taylor borough police charge.
Chad Thomas, 30, of 533 Hemlock St., is facing charges of strangulation, assault and resisting arrest.
According to the criminal complaint:
At about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Taylor police officers responded to a call for help to emergency dispatchers from 57 Kennedy Boulevard, Taylor.
When officers arrived, they found Thomas and Marquitta Ward standing on the top of the staircase of the residence and ordered them downstairs.
Officers interviewed Ward, who said she and Thomas had been arguing all morning. She said Ward woke up upset over his broken vehicle.
The argument escalated and Thomas put his hands around her neck, restricting her ability to breathe normally, she said.
Ward was able to push away from Thomas and called 911.
At that point, Thomas grabbed her cellphone and then slammed her onto the bed.
Officers noted Ward had a scrape on her left elbow.
As police were attempting to arrest Thomas, he tensed both of his arms, preventing officers from putting him in handcuffs.
Officers were eventually able to restrain Thomas and take him into custody.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on June 10 before District Judge Laura Turlip.
Thomas remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
