JACKSON TWP. — Three “undocumented foreign nationals” were placed into federal custody and two men were issued citations during a law enforcement sweep Saturday along state Route 29 and Harveys Creek, township police said in a news release.

Local, state and federal law enforcement officials conducted the operation following complaints of littering, open fires, open alcohol containers, public drunkenness, illegal drug use and “general rowdy behavior,” police said.

One man was cited for fishing without a license while another was cited for open burning, police said.

Two other people were issued notices to appeal in federal court.

Police did not say what federal agencies took part in the operation or the status of the three undocumented individuals who were placed into custody.

“The Jackson Township Police Department will continue to monitor the Route 29 corridor in Jackson Township for illegal and unlawful behavior that impacts the safety and security of people who use this area for lawful fishing and recreational use,” police wrote in a news release.

The sweep comes weeks after federal agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested four undocumented migrants — three Mexican nationals and a citizen of the Dominican Republic — working at Wyoming Valley Pallets in Exeter. Weeks before that, three undocumented immigrants were detained working at a pizzeria in Honesdale.

Efforts to reach officials with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement about the Jackson Twp. sweep were not immediately successful.
