The Scranton Police Department is investigating a recently circulated video showing an officer who appears to be asleep in a marked patrol vehicle while on duty, according to a release.
“We take this matter with the utmost seriousness,” the release reads. “Following a preliminary internal review, we have confirmed that the incident occurred and that the officer’s conduct did not align with the standards of professionalism expected of our department.”
The issue is being addressed as an internal personnel matter, “with appropriate measures taken to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents moving forward,” according to the release.
“The Scranton Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining the trust and confidence of the community we serve,” the release concludes.
