Zarina Mustafina, West Scranton High School

Q: What accomplishments are you most proud of and why?

A: I am proud of my ability to step out of my comfort zone. If I never had the bravery to join sports, run for student council, or ask for what I want, I wouldn’t be able to say I’m accomplished.

Q: What were your most rewarding school or community activities?

A: Unified Track brings me genuine happiness. Knowing the kids have the same opportunity to compete just as I did makes me smile, especially when they win.

Q: What is something you do to relax?

A: When I’m feeling stressed, the best thing I do to relax is go on a walk if weather permits. If I’m not walking, I like to cook a good homemade meal.

Q: Plans after high school graduation?

A: East Stroudsburg University, marketing.

Q: Who do you most admire and why?

A: I admire my friend Josephine. She is enlisted in the Army and she leaves shortly after graduation. She’s resilient and her choice to dedicate herself to protecting her country makes me admire her even more.

Q: What advice do you have for younger students?

A: Never be afraid to ask questions. Teachers or adults are more knowledgeable and have much more to tell than we know. It’s better to learn from them instead of trying to compete with them.
