The Dalton Community Library was founded by the Dalton Women’s Club in 1948. After operating as a completely volunteer-run organization, we joined our sister libraries of Abington, Carbondale, Scranton and Taylor in 1983 to form the Lackawanna County Library System. We were joined in 1985 by the new libraries of Interboro (now Valley Community) and North Pocono. In 1995, the computer automation updated and streamlined our catalog, circulation and interlibrary loan systems for better, faster service for the whole county.
Free public Internet access was inaugurated in 1997. For more than 70 years, the Dalton Community Library has proudly served the people of Dalton and surrounding communities and we look for forward to carrying on this tradition for future generations.
