Taylor Community Library

The library was founded on March 17, 1953, by a group of dedicated citizens in the Borough of Taylor. Through various fundraisers and hard work, they raised the necessary funds to acquire materials and furniture. The borough generously provided space for the library in a room within the Borough Building.
Tragedy struck in 1972 when a fire destroyed the Borough Building, along with the police station and the library. However, thanks to the community’s determination and resilience, the library was soon reopened. For many years, it lacked a permanent location until 1980, when the borough constructed a dedicated library facility.
In 1982, following a tax referendum in Lackawanna County, the library became a member of the Lackawanna County Library System. Since then, it has experienced significant growth and eventually outgrew its original Union Street location. In 2006, the library proudly opened its newly constructed building at 710 S. Main Street.
