Tuesday, March 4, Mid Valley Secondary Center, Throop.
Tyler Technologies Appraisal Services, the company that the county contracted to conduct the reassessment, will make the presentations. Members of the public will have the opportunity at the sessions to ask questions about the reassessment.
Patrick Tobin, director of the Lackawanna County Assessment Office, said data collection for the reassessment is complete and that the process to determine valuations of more than 103,000 parcels in the county is under way. The office will mail those valuations to property owners in March. That, in turn, will trigger a two-part appeal process for people who disagree with the newly assessed valuation.
Final valuations must be set by mid-October, so that they may be used by local governments to establish their 2026 tax rates.
County assessment officials noted that the public information sessions will be particularly helpful, in that the county has not conducted a reassessment since 1968, resulting in most county residents being unfamiliar with the process.
All of the public information sessions will begin at 5 p.m. and are scheduled for two hours.
